Artistic Closets can be found in Stuart, Florida. Our city is home to around 15,000 people, although we’re a part of the larger Port St. Lucie Metro Area;so while we’re a small city, we’re part of a much larger location. What’s great about this is that you can have the small-town feel without losing access to everything a larger city has to offer.
Stuart was settled in 1870, but it was a fairly small community for years. During the early 1890s, the settlement was actually called Potsdam, a name that came from one of the landowners who migrated from Potsdam, Germany. He and his brother owned what eventually became the downtown area of Stuart. In 1895, the Florida East Coast Railway was built through Potsdam, and the name was officially changed to Stuart in honor of local landowner Homer Hine Stuart, Jr.
In 1914, Stuart officially incorporated as a town, and a short 11 years later, it was upgraded to a city. It then became the county seat of Martin County. Thanks to the huge number of sailfish in the area, the city has earned the nickname the Sailfish Capital of the World. Stuart is also known for experiencing many hurricanes. As of 2005, 19 hurricanes have hit the city.

If you’re coming in from the west, it’s a bit trickier because you have to go around the St. Lucie River, which is quite wide in the area directly west of us.
