You’ll find Artistic Closets in Palm Beach, FL, a gorgeous little town near the Intracoastal Waterway that separates West Palm Beach from Lake Worth. For most of the year, we have about 10,000 people living in Palm Beach. At the height of tourism season, though, we actually have around 30,000 people in town. If you live here year-round and are looking to update your closets, you’ve come to the right place.
The History of Palm Beach
Palm Beach was created as a resort town. Henry Morrison Flagler, a Standard Oil co-founder,helped bring the Florida East Coast Railway to the area and built both the Breakers Hotel and the Royal Poinciana Hotel, two of the first resort hotels in Palm Beach. He later helped build up the “winter season” activities, giving people a reason to visit Palm Beach even when they couldn’t go to the beach.
In 1911, Palm Beach was officially incorporated. During these early years, Edward R. Bradley purchased land from a number of others and destroyed the houses on those properties. This effectively eliminated the small community of Styx and led to a major influx of people to West Palm Beach, which actually incorporated as a town before Palm Beach itself. Today, West Palm Beach has more permanent residents than Palm Beach.
Things to Do
Looking for something near our showroom to do after you finish browsing? There are a number of things nearby. About half an hour from our showroom is the Society of the Four Arts Gardens. This botanical garden was renovated in 2004 after much of it was damaged by hurricanes. Today, the area includes a Spanish Garden, Chinese Garden, and a number of unique sculptures.
The Flagler Museum is another interesting place to visit. Built by Henry Flagler, it’s a huge mansion with 55 different rooms. The building is noted for its unique architecture and was designed to be as extravagant as one of the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. While you’re there, be sure to see the Big Kapok Tree at the nearby Royal Poinciana Chapel.
Finally, don’t miss out on the amazing beaches. This is why Palm Beach has 20,000 or so visitors every year. Our beaches are amazing!
